The Practice
Research built like a good archive — patient, precise, properly sourced.
Amazing Past is a research practice built on a simple conviction: nearly every family leaves a record, and most of it is still there. In parish registers and ship manifests. In county deed books, naturalization petitions, and courthouse ledgers. It waits for someone patient enough to go and find it.
We work the way a careful archivist does — following the paper trail across counties, borders, and centuries, and reporting only what the records actually support. Where the evidence runs out, we say so. A documented gap is worth more than a confident guess.
Whether you are starting from a single half-remembered name or picking up research a relative began decades ago, the method is the same: search wide, verify carefully, and hand back a finished record your family can keep.

Meet the Historian
Forty years of following the paper trail.
It started in 1985, with his own family line. What began as a personal question became a discipline, and then a practice.
Dan Meno was born in Indianapolis in 1957, where he found an early fascination with medical research and human anatomy. He moved to California in 1979 and founded his first company, Bio Med International, in 1982 at the age of twenty-five — consulting research that would leave a lasting mark on transdermal drug delivery and electrosurgical instrumentation.
He returned to Indianapolis in 1989 to form The Genesis Group, working as a hospital consultant building turn-key medical practices for rural Midwest towns desperate for general practitioners. In 2002 he established First Impressions, an orthodontic dental studio that became known statewide for the quality of the appliances it made for its orthodontist clientele.
Through all of it, the family research continued. Today Amazing Past specializes in the digital restoration of photographs and video, family genealogy, and the preservation of land through the State and National Registries.
Away from the archives, Dan is a proud father who travels when he can and plays and teaches pickleball professionally. He is also an accomplished baritone singer, with two recorded albums and years of performance alongside the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
